Sublingual immunotherapy — allergen immunotherapy taken as daily drops under the tongue at home, for environmental allergies. Unlike antihistamines, which only manage symptoms, immunotherapy retrains the immune system toward tolerance. Custom multi-allergen drops are prescribed off-label using FDA-regulated extracts.
For eligible environmental-allergy patients, testing, prescribing, and monitoring are handled remotely, and dosing is at home. People who need in-person care — a history of anaphylaxis, poorly controlled asthma, or a suspected drug allergy — should be seen by an allergist in person instead.
Immunotherapy is gradual. In real-world data, clinically meaningful improvement roughly doubled between 12 and 24 months, and a multi-year course (about three years) is recommended for benefit that lasts after you stop.
Sublingual immunotherapy carries a lower risk of severe systemic reactions than allergy shots, which is why it can be self-administered.
