Skin Rashes or Hives
People with peel allergies often experience red, itchy rashes or hives on their skin. These are the body's external reaction to the allergen which can appear immediately or several hours after contact with the peel.
Difficulty Breathing
This symptom may occur if the allergen is ingested or inhaled. The airways may become restricted, leading to difficulty breathing, wheezing, or a sensation of tightness in the chest.
Swelling
Swelling could occur in various parts of the body, including the face, lips, tongue, and throat. This is due to the immune system's response to the allergen, which results in inflammation.
Gastrointestinal Issues
Some people may experience gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal cramps if they consume a peel they're allergic to. This is the body's way of trying to rid itself of the allergen.
Anaphylaxis
In severe cases, a person with a peel allergy might experience anaphylaxis, which is a serious allergic reaction that requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms include rapid pulse, severe difficulty breathing, dizziness, and loss of consciousness.
Itchy or Watery Eyes
This is a common symptom of many allergies, including peel allergies. It's caused by the body's release of histamines in response to the allergen, which causes inflammation and irritation in the eyes.
