Crested wheatgrass allergy and hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, are both forms of allergies primarily affecting the respiratory system. However, there are noticeable differences in their triggers and occasionally, in their symptoms.
Crested wheatgrass allergy is a specific type of allergy, triggered by exposure to crested wheatgrass. This grass is often used for grazing and drought-tolerant landscaping. Those affected can have immediate allergic reactions like sneezing, itchy eyes, sinus pressure, and skin rashes upon exposure.
On the other hand, hay fever is not actually caused by hay nor does it cause a fever. It refers to seasonal allergies, caused by a variety of triggers such as pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds or spores from fungi and molds. These allergens are typically widespread in spring, summer, or fall, depending upon which plant an individual is allergic to.
