Identify your Symptoms
Pay attention to your body's reaction after eating the Subway sub. Common symptoms of food allergies include hives, itching, swelling, stomach cramps, nausea or vomiting, difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, or even loss of consciousness. These symptoms may appear within minutes to several hours after exposure to the allergen.
Seek Immediate Medical Attention
If you are experiencing difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, or loss of consciousness, these symptoms could be signs of anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. This requires immediate medical attention. Call your local emergency service number or go to the nearest hospital.
Use Epinephrine Autoinjector if Available
If you have been prescribed an epinephrine autoinjector (such as an EpiPen), use it right away as directed by your healthcare provider. This can help control the allergic reaction until you can get to the hospital.
Follow Up with a Healthcare Professional
After your immediate symptoms have been managed, it's important to follow up with a healthcare professional. They can provide a full evaluation and confirm which allergen(s) caused the reaction.
Allergy Test
Consider having an allergy test. This is the best way to confirm which allergens you are sensitive to. Testing can help you manage your exposure to these allergens in the future.
Allergy Immunotherapy Treatments
If you are frequently exposed to the allergen, your healthcare professional may recommend allergy immunotherapy. This involves exposing you to small amounts of the allergen over time, in order to build up your immunity.
Curex offers both Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT), which involves regular injections of the allergen, and Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT), which involves dissolving tablets under your tongue. These treatments can lead to dramatic improvements in allergy symptoms and quality of life over time.
Manage your Diet
Once you know which allergens you are sensitive to, you can manage your diet to avoid these allergens. Consider consulting with a nutritionist. They can help adapt your diet to ensure you are receiving all necessary nutrients while avoiding foods that cause allergic reactions.
Communicate your Allergies
Make sure to communicate your allergies to restaurant staff, friends, and family. Most restaurants, including Subway, are well equipped to handle dietary restrictions when given prior notice.
Safety is the main priority, so don’t hesitate in disclosing your allergies to ensure your meal is safe for consumption.
Remember, it's not the end of the world if you're diagnosed with a food allergy. With proper management, you can continue to live a satisfied, healthy life while minimizing your risk of exposure to allergens.
