Joint pain is usually not an allergy. In very rare cases, joint pain can be part of a delayed allergic reaction called serum sickness, which can occur 1-3 weeks after exposure to certain medications or antivenoms. This type of reaction almost always includes other symptoms โ€” hives, rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and swelling of the face or extremities. Joint pain can also very rarely occur as part of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), but again, other signs like hives, swelling, and breathing trouble dominate the picture. If joint pain happens without any of these accompanying allergic symptoms, a non-allergic cause (arthritis, injury, overuse) is far more likely.

Because an allergy is unlikely to be the driver, the most useful next step is a clinician who can look at the actual cause โ€” not an allergy test.
