Emergency Ambulance Needed

 
  • If Annie is experiencing difficulty breathing, severe throat swelling, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, or a sudden drop in blood pressure, call an ambulance immediately (typically dialing 911 or your local emergency number). Time is critical in potential anaphylactic reactions.
 

Immediate Steps to Take

 
  • Administer an epinephrine auto-injector immediately if available and if Annie has been prescribed one for food allergies. Even if symptoms seem to improve, she must be evaluated in a hospital because reactions can recur.
  • Help Annie to lie down with her legs elevated and keep her calm. If she experiences difficulty breathing, sitting up might be necessary, so follow her comfort level while maintaining calm.
  • Call emergency services right away if not done already, and provide clear details about the ingestion of the allergenic food (Annie’s Homegrown Mac & Cheese) and any symptoms being observed.
  • Monitor her breathing and pulse continuously until help arrives, noting any changes in her condition.
  • If symptoms worsen and no epinephrine is available, continue to ensure the ambulance is on the way and inform the dispatcher of the situation.
 

Aftercare and Follow-up

 
  • Even if symptoms subside after epinephrine, a hospital evaluation is essential to monitor for a biphasic reaction.
  • Ensure that Annie has an updated allergy action plan and that she and those around her know how to manage future incidents.
  • If she is not already prescribed an epinephrine auto-injector, discuss this with her allergist for future preparedness.
