  • If the individual is experiencing difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, a rapid drop in blood pressure, severe dizziness, or loss of consciousness, call an ambulance immediately.
  • Do not wait for additional symptoms to appear. A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) can progress very quickly.
 

Use of Epinephrine

 
  • If the person has been prescribed an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) for known severe allergies, administer it as directed at the first sign of a severe reaction.
  • After using the auto-injector, continue to monitor the individual closely while waiting for emergency services.
 

Stabilize and Monitor

 
  • Help the person lie down with their legs raised, unless breathing is compromised, in which case they may need to sit up to help keep their airway open.
  • If the person is conscious and able to swallow, avoid giving them any food or drink until medical help arrives.
  • If any additional doses of epinephrine are available and symptoms persist or worsen, follow the guidance provided by healthcare professionals on timing and dosage.

Immediate Action: Assess Severity

 
  • If the individual is experiencing difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, a rapid drop in blood pressure, severe dizziness, or loss of consciousness, call an ambulance immediately.
  • Do not wait for additional symptoms to appear. A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) can progress very quickly.
 

Use of Epinephrine

 
  • If the person has been prescribed an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) for known severe allergies, administer it as directed at the first sign of a severe reaction.
  • After using the auto-injector, continue to monitor the individual closely while waiting for emergency services.
 

Stabilize and Monitor

 
  • Help the person lie down with their legs raised, unless breathing is compromised, in which case they may need to sit up to help keep their airway open.
  • If the person is conscious and able to swallow, avoid giving them any food or drink until medical help arrives.
  • If any additional doses of epinephrine are available and symptoms persist or worsen, follow the guidance provided by healthcare professionals on timing and dosage.
 

Aftercare and Medical Observation

 
  • Even if symptoms improve after taking epinephrine, the individual should be evaluated in an emergency department since biphasic reactions (a second, delayed reaction) can occur.
  • Provide detailed information to the medical team regarding the ingestion of Lay’s Barbecue and any known allergies or previous allergic reactions.
