  • Call 911 immediately if you or someone else shows signs of severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis (such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, rapid or weak pulse, or dizziness).
  • Do not delay—even if you have an epinephrine auto-injector, severe reactions can worsen very quickly.
 

Administer Epinephrine if Available

 
  • If the person has a prescribed epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen), inject it immediately as directed.
  • Follow the device instructions carefully, and note the time of injection.
 

Monitor and Prepare for Further Assistance

 
  • Keep the person calm and in a comfortable position—ideally lying down with their legs elevated unless breathing is compromised.
  • Monitor their breathing and level of consciousness continuously while awaiting emergency services.
  • If symptoms worsen or if the person becomes unresponsive, be prepared to start CPR if you are trained.
