  • If the patient shows signs of severe allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, rapid swelling of the face or throat, or a sudden drop in blood pressure, call an ambulance immediately by dialing your local emergency number (911 in the US or the appropriate number in your area).
  • Any rapid deterioration or loss of consciousness warrants immediate emergency medical support.

 

Administer Epinephrine Without Delay

 
  • If the patient has been prescribed an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen), use it at the first indication of a severe reaction. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
  • Even if symptoms seem to improve after the injection, seek emergency care as further observation and treatment may be necessary.

 

Monitor and Support the Patient

 
  • Keep the patient calm and in a comfortable position; if they are experiencing light-headedness or weakness, have them lie down with their legs elevated if possible.
  • Watch closely for any changes in breathing, alertness, or skin color. If the patient becomes unresponsive or their breathing worsens, be prepared to perform CPR if you are trained.

 

Prevent Additional Exposure and Prepare Critical Information

 
  • Immediately remove any potential sources of peanut exposure from the vicinity to prevent further contact.
  • If available, gather the patient’s medical history including known allergies and current medications to provide crucial information to emergency responders.
